Welcome to the daily urban ritual where every morning people of different age groups gather around to ‘Laugh Out Loud’. All you need is an hour a day, to guffaw with all your heart. It might seem a bit bizarre at first but for many it has proved to be very therapeutic. Malini Nair, laughter yoga participant says, “Laughter Yoga has helped me both physically and emotionally. Even on days when I’m feeling low or sad, my morning laughter session immediately elevates my mood and helps me gain a new perspective on life.”

Health Benefits of Laughter Yoga

Laughter Yoga is a combination of deep breathing exercises, which oxygenates the body and brain, making you feel more healthy and energetic. Mr. Rama Murthy, Ambassador of Karnataka Laughter Yoga Club said “Laughter is the best medicine - It helps to reduce stress, lower blood pressure, increase lung capacity, improve blood circulation, treat depression, improves the immune system, reduces pain and improves sleep.” Mr. Murthy adds that the best time for laughter Yoga is in the morning “When you start your day laughing it keeps you mentally positive and stress free.”

Laugh it off at work

Today there are over 200 laughter clubs in Bangalore making it the country’s ‘laughter city’. You can get your dose of laughter at a park near you or you can even reach out to different organisations which conduct these sessions every morning. In fact, this exercise to good health has become so popular that many corporate companies in the city have started conducting sessions for their employees in campus.
